In a poetic and understated cinematic language, Liechtenstein director Arno Oehri tells the story of a failed father-daughter relationship in his feature film debut—one that might still have a second chance.
A distressing diagnosis from his doctor throws retired neuroscientist Wolfgang Morius off balance. Suddenly, the end feels near. Two things weigh on his mind: he wants to try to mend his broken relationship with his daughter Mascha, and he longs to visit his childhood home one last time. Mascha, the director of a local cultural center in the countryside, happens to live in the same region where Morius' family home stands. On impulse, he sets off on his journey, only to be met with little enthusiasm by his daughter. Morius keeps silent about his illness and the disturbing visions haunting his dreams. Memories resurface, old wounds reopen, and it seems to be a battle already lost.
Filmed in the picturesque Liechtenstein lowlands, using the simplest means and predominantly in atmospheric black and white, the film unfolds a subtle yet profound power, delving deep into the human condition and leaving ample space for personal reflection and emotion.
